In 2023, Sport NZ commissioned research to assess the economic value that sport and active recreation provides for New Zealand. The study measures the sector’s economic value in its broadest sense (for example, it includes consumer spending on sport and recreation as well as the employment that sport and recreation provides). This study was commissioned to complement an earlier study on the Social Return on Investment (SROI) of recreational physical activity.
